What Accoya is
Accoya starts as softwood and undergoes acetylation, a modification process. It is not a naturally occurring hardwood or a chemical-free treatment. Read the manufacturer’s material explanation when comparing it with other timber options.
Specify the actual wood product in the quotation. The appearance of a finished gate also depends on its boards, joints, frame and coating.
Assess the finished gate
Ask how the joiner has designed the gate for its width, weight and movement. Discuss the supports, fittings and exposure alongside the timber choice. Material properties alone cannot guarantee that a complete gate will never move, split or need adjustment.
View a finish sample beside the property. Decide whether you want a painted surface, visible grain or a weathered appearance, and request the care schedule for that choice.
Read each warranty separately
Request the current manufacturer terms for the supplied material and the separate terms for fabrication, finish, fittings, installation and automation. Confirm what a claim covers, exclusions, records required and any labour charges.
A timber warranty does not automatically cover coatings, hinges or the workmanship of a finished gate. Check the documents linked from Accoya’s ownership guidance against the proposed application.
