Heavy-duty commercial sliding gates are the standard perimeter access solution for London business premises that require wide openings, HGV access, or high-frequency operation. A commercial motor on a busy depot gate needs to handle 200 or more cycles in the same period, in all weather, without failure.

The engineering of a commercial sliding gate system starts with the ground track or cantilever specification. For HGV sites, the track must be engineered to support the wheel loading of heavy vehicles running over the gate threshold at operational speed. Cantilever systems, which suspend the gate without a ground track, are preferred for sites where the threshold must be kept completely clear — common in food distribution and logistics applications where fork-lift clearance is critical.

Motor specification follows from the duty cycle and gate weight. Commercial motors from FAAC, BFT, and CAME are rated for continuous operation in heavy-duty applications. They include thermal cut-out protection, integrated obstacle detection, and battery backup as standard. Soft-start and soft-stop programming extends the mechanical lifespan and reduces wear on gate bearings and track components.
