Aluminium gates for your London home
Choose the appearance of the entrance first: open bars, horizontal slats or a boarded design that provides more screening. Then compare the construction behind that appearance. Profile dimensions, joints, support posts and hardware matter as much as the colour.
Bring photographs of your frontage and examples of the look you prefer to the initial discussion. We can consider the driveway layout with you before specifying a gate. An existing pillar or a narrow entrance may need changes that a product photograph cannot show.
Choose the opening before ordering the gate
A swing gate needs a clear movement area inside the entrance. A sliding system needs suitable space along the boundary and a support arrangement designed for that system. The survey should account for gradients, drainage, parking positions and a separate route for people on foot.
Look at electric sliding gates and electric swing gates to compare the layouts. Avoid ordering from the width of the opening alone: the installer also needs to check supports, clearances and exposure.
Finishes, colours and samples
Ask for a sample and the exact colour reference for the proposed finish. Confirm whether the same colour applies to both faces, posts, hinges and other visible hardware. Wood-effect and textured finishes have their own product specifications and availability.
Check the manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning and dealing with scratches. Aluminium still needs appropriate care, and a powder-coated finish does not carry one universal guarantee. Ask for the actual finish warranty and its exclusions, including the treatment of accidental damage and unsuitable cleaning products.
Manual gates and automation
For a manual gate, discuss the lock, handles, hold-open arrangement and ease of everyday use. For automation, ask the installer to select equipment for the assembled gate and site rather than using the material name as a shortcut for motor suitability.

Compare complete installed quotations
Ask each supplier to list gate construction, finish, posts, fittings, groundworks, electrical work, controls, installation and handover. Check which surfaces they will make good and who will remove the existing gate. Agree how changes to the scope will be priced.

Aftercare and written cover
Keep the product details, care instructions, warranty documents and service records together. Ask who to contact for a problem with the gate, finish or automation, and whether a call-out or labour charge applies. Cleaning and hardware checks remain part of ownership even when you choose aluminium to reduce timber-finishing work.
