Separate visitor video from gate control
A camera can show a visitor without providing a compatible command to the gate. A command can request opening without confirming the leaf’s position. Write down which functions you need: answer a visitor, grant access, see gate status or manage temporary users.
Ask the installer to identify every device, interface, app and subscription involved. Have the gate engineer assess unattended operation as part of the complete system.
Ring: check the actual access product
Ring’s Access Controller Pro information describes a relay-triggered access device. That does not establish that a Ring doorbell alone will control your gate, or that a particular product and service are supported for your UK installation.
Use Ring’s Intercom compatibility guidance for an existing intercom, then confirm the exact gate-side interface and regional availability before ordering.
Nest: do not infer gate compatibility
Google’s Nest doorbell compatibility guidance warns that integrated intercom and gate-control systems typically do not work with the doorbell. A separate video feed should not be described as a supported gate-opening integration.
If an installer proposes an additional controller, request its manufacturer-supported connection, account requirements and failure behaviour. Do not rely on a future Matter or mobile-network feature promise.
Control4: specify the complete system
Control4 documents video door stations for visitor communication. Ask the integrator for the proposed door station, controller, software requirements and configured gate-control function. Record any licence or remote-access charges.
Before handover, demonstrate visitor calls, authorised release, access removal and recovery after connection loss. Compare the resulting scope with a dedicated gate intercom. These examples are compatibility checks, not a statement that Driveway Gates London supplies each brand.
